بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

The sun is shining, a breeze rustles the leaves, and the bright green of the grass beckons. Oh summer, here we are, ready to explore the lushness found in a forest, and search for shells on the sandy beach while listening to the crashing of the waves!

Forest or beach, what type of summer gal are you? Let us know in the comments!

For me, a mixture of both is perfection! Those hikes that pave through majestic trees leading to a scenic view of serene blue. Ah, SubhanAllah.

Well, Chicagoans, you’re in luck! In just about a 5 hour drive, this bliss awaits! A perfect getaway for couples or families.

What is this gem, you ask?

Plan a weekend trip or a week long stay, this is the perfect short road trip to refresh and relax.

Plenty of airbnbs or cute country style hotels are available —but remember to book early as everything fills up fast!

We got an airbnb right by the lake with stunning views of the sunset that the entire family enjoyed. The only thing I would change would have been an airbnb slightly closer to the main sights and activities —as driving 30 minutes after a long day of adventure with young ones and toddlers felt like 30 hours!

-Cave Point County Park: *A must see! This was by far our favourite stop in Door County.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking —no filters and to be honest, I’m not the best at taking pictures! It’s a perfect place to picnic, enjoy a short trail and even enjoy some beach since it leads to Whitefish Dunes State Park! It’s not a huge park but it’s definitely perfect with littles in tow.

-Whitefish Dunes State Park: adjacent to Cave Point, making it a great hike.

-Visit the other State Parks for amazing trails and scenery. Peninsula State park, Potawatomi State Park, Rock Island State Park and Washington Island (these last two can only be reached by a ferry —-that you can take your car on!)

-Parasailing! We used https://parasaildoorcounty.com/ and had an amazing experience.

-Boat tours and kayaking

-Try the Door County’s speciality, fish boil! Not only is it great fun to watch, the fish was actually good —if you can tolerate no desi spices! Needless to say, my father-in-law was looking around for a dash of masala.

Keep in mind, there are plenty of restaurants but no halal options (at least when we went! We’d love to hear from you if this has changed!) There are some vegan options you can search up. We had pizza and the fish boil but for the most part, we brought meals from home.

At Door County there’s some fun for everyone! From kayaking, to boat tours, parasailing, shipwrecks, hiking, exploring islands, you won’t regret it. If you’re travelling with a family, doorcountymom.com has more great information for you!

Needless to say, it is always surreal to view the beauty of Allah’s creation. Makes you pause and ask, if this world -despite all its evil and darkness- can be so stunning, how must Jannah be?
