So, what’s at steak? You want to take your salads up a level? Don’t worry, we’ve got you!
A salad should never be ”boring” or unappetizing. A salad should be –healthy, of course but most importantly, enjoyable and memorable. We came across this simple steak recipe years ago, and tweaked the recipe for this delicious combination. Steak plus salad? Who would have thought? Yet, here is a mouthwatering meal, perfect for lunch or dinner. Truth be told, every time we purchase steak, that is the first thing that comes to mind. Alhamdulillah, the family and also the kids in the house devour it. That means they are getting their veggies, a huge bonus!
*The key to this steak recipe is to marinate the steak overnight to really get those flavors in.*
Ingredients
Steak
- 3 tsp ginger garlic
- 1 tsp chilli paste
- 6 tbsp tomato sauce
- 6 tbsp barbecue sauce
- 6 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
- 2 tbsp. lemon juice
- 2 tbsp chilli sauce
- 4 tbsp mustard sauce
- 2 tsp turmeric
- 2 tsp pepper
- 3 tsp ground cumin
- 3 tsp ground coriander
- 4 tsp barbecue spice
- 4 tsp steak and chops spice
- 1 tsp salt ( you can taste and add more salt to your liking)
Salad ingredients:
- Purple cabbage
- lettuce
- cucumber
- feta cheese
- corn
- carrots
- cherry tomatoes
- bean sprouts
- Avocado
- Red/green/ yellow peppers (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse your steak and let the excess water drain. if you have a thick steak, then cut it in half so that it fries faster.
- Once drained, then after most of the water has been drained from the steak, marinate the steak in the ingredients mentioned above. Let that marinate overnight. *No need to cut it up into strips just yet, you will do that once the steak is cooked, it makes it much easier to cut it.
- If marinating overnight, take out from fridge and bring the steak to room temperature.
- Once at room temperature, to a grill pan, add 4 to 5 tbsp of butter on high to medium heat. Once heated, add the steak and cook on all sides until cooked, brushing any remaining marinade onto the steak. As you are frying the steak, make sure to adjust the heat temperature because it can burn quickly due to the marinade. If it seems like the sauce is sticking to the pan, add a tbsp butter.
- Meanwhile as the steak is cooking, you can prepare the salad. Toss all ingredients together in a bowl.
- Once your steak is done, cool on a wire rack and then cut up your steak into strips.
- Place it on top of the salad and garnish it with some cilantro or parsley.
As always, say Bismillah and enjoy!
